Labels
Labels are coloured tags you put on tasks — for example "Bug", "Feature" or "Urgent". They show on cards, in the calendar and timeline, and you can filter a board by them.
Workspace labels and board labels
There are two kinds of labels:
| Workspace labels | Board labels | |
|---|---|---|
| Available on | Every board in the workspace | One board only |
| Created by | Workspace admins | Editors and board admins of that board |
| Created from | Settings → Workspace → Labels | A task's Labels field on that board |
Use workspace labels for tags that mean the same thing everywhere (such as priorities), and board labels for tags that only matter to one project.
Add a label to a task
- Open the task.
- In the side panel, click the Labels field (Add labels…) and start typing.
- Pick a label from the list.
If nothing matches, editors can choose Create label with the name they typed. This creates a new board label on the current board.
To remove a label from a task, remove it from the task's Labels field.
Manage labels
Workspace admins see every label of the workspace on one page:
- Open Settings → Workspace → Labels.
- Use Filter labels… to search, and the type chips (All, Workspace, Board) to narrow the list.
For each label you see where it's used — for example "3 board(s) · 42 tasks".
Create a workspace label
- Open Settings → Workspace → Labels.
- Choose New label.
- Enter a Label name and pick a colour.
Colours
Pick one of the nine Presets, or choose Custom colour to pick any colour. In the custom picker you can set the hue and lightness, or type a colour value such as a hex code.
Make a board label a workspace label
If a board label turns out to be useful everywhere, choose Make workspace label. Board labels with the same name on other boards are merged into the new workspace label, so tasks everywhere end up with the same label.
Rename, recolour or delete a label
Choose Edit on a label to change its name or colour. Choose Delete label to remove it; the dialog tells you how many tasks use it, and it's removed from all of them.
Labels when moving or importing
- When you move a task to another board, workspace labels stay. Board labels are matched by name on the target board, created there if needed, or dropped — the move dialog tells you which.
- Templates can include board labels that are created with every new board made from them.
- Imports from Trello or Kan bring labels along, matched to the closest preset colour.
Filter by label
On a board, choose Filter and pick one or more labels. The board, calendar and timeline then show only tasks with any of those labels.
